First, what's going on with wanting to take down any statue? These people have gotten out of hand and need to be stopped. Also, how can Bret Favre compare Kaepernick to Pat Tillman? If you don't know who those two are, look it up.
The above picture is part of an exhibit, of the late Elmer Keith's guns, that was on display at the Boise Cabela's store. Unfortunately his heirs decided to auction off the guns and the display is gone. I'll post more pictures in future posts.
Handguns have been used for many years (I won't bore you with the history) in combat and for personal defense. There are several different types of handguns, but we'll just talk about the most common used for self protection. The auto loading handgun is probably the most commonly used today. No, it doesn't open the box of ammo and load it's self. It means the action cycles when the gun is fire, ejects the spent cartridge, and brings the next round out of the magazine up into the chamber. Notice I said magazine. One of my biggest pet peeves is all of these "gun people" who call it a clip. That is the wrong terminology. The next type we'll talk about today is the revolver. The cylinder that hold the cartridges revolves with each shot and presents a new cartridge to the firing pin (or hammer). Works easier then it sounds like. Revolvers are called single action or double action. Basically, single action means you have to cock the hammer back each time you want to fire the gun. Double action means you can cock the hammer like the single action, or you can just pull the trigger each time you want to fire. Sounds complicated, but it isn't. In the picture above, the middle gun in the middle row is a auto loader. The top row middle and the second row left and the bottom row right are double action and the rest are single action revolvers.
We'll talk about auto loaders for awhile today. The Glock brand is probably the most carried gun in this country. Glock has many models, but the most common rounds used are .380, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP, and 10mm. We'll talk about the cartridges in a later post, but the most common is the 9mm. I personally do not like Glocks, but many thousand of other people do, so there you go. I prefer an auto loader with an external safety. Many people who carry Glocks don't even know what that is. I carried the 1911 style (we'll talk about them tomorrow) for many years in the military (until the Beretta was selected) and that is what I prefer. Just my preference.
Okay, that is probably more then you wanted to know, so I'll close for today. Stay safe and take care.
