First I need to comment on a news item I read today. The Queen of England has a badge she gives out for certain things. It has ST. Michael standing on Satan. Now, there is a petition to have it redesigned. Supposedly, it reminds people of the George Floyd murder. It seems that everything reminds some one of that incident. Come on people, I'm not saying that the killing wasn't wrong, but get a hold on things. This has gotten out of hand and I think the average citizen has had enough. I've heard that many non gun owning Liberals have been purchasing firearms. They understand that things are heading south if the country doesn't do something.
On to the main topic for today. Guns. The above picture is a nicely engraved, double action (DA) revolver. It appears is a Smith and Wesson (S&W). S&W has been making handguns for many years and they certainly have their followers. They make some very nice snub barrels that are good for self defense. They can be had in several calibers. We'll discus calibers later. Colt, Ruger, Taurus, and some others all make DA revolvers. Many writers dismiss the DA revolver, because it doesn't hold as many rounds as some auto loaders do. I think that a person who doesn't know about guns should look a DA revolver when considering a purchase. It is very hard to accidently fire a DA revolver when firing it double action. I haven't mentioned single action revolvers because they are harder to shoot and really should be left to more knowledgeable shooters.
We talked about auto loader handguns yesterday. Incidentally, some people call them pistols so you know they aren't referring to revolvers. There are many companies making auto loaders and a person really should at least handle as many as possible to see what fits. How a grip fits is very important and only you will know that feels good. Sights look different to people, so take a good look at them also.
For me, I have to like the way the gun looks to start with. I'm turned off by many and I know I'm very choosey about that.
I think that's a good place to stop today. I'll explain my thinking next time. Stay safe and take care.
