A Sad Day

A sad day as Charlie Daniels has died at 83. I won't say much about him, except he was on our side. You can look him up if you want to learn about him. I don't have a picture of him, so I've used a picture of some friends who are jamming in WY. They aren't as well known, but we like them.

Looks another day of thunder and rain, just waiting for it to start.

We haven't talked much about guns and ammo for awhile. So, we'll talk about ammo today. Because of an incident involving a friend, I have done some rethinking about defense ammo. Most of the "experts" will tell you to use hollow point bullets (hp) for every day carry (edc). I have changed over to full metal jacket (fmj) ammo. Not just any fmj, but those with a flat point (fmjfp). Most fmj rounds have a round nose profile and some guns my not feed the fmjfp correctly. The only way to know, is to fire some in your gun. I know it costs to fire some rounds to see if they work, but you want to know before it becomes a life saving episode. FMJ bullets will not expand like hp, but will tend to have deeper penetration. Some people have voiced concerns about the bullet going through the person and possible hitting someone behind them. If you have to pull the trigger, you aren't going to be worried about such things. Your mind will be on other things. A hole going in and a hole going out will bleed more. HP bullets may expand and not penetrate as deep. A heavy jacked may cause a hp to expand before penetrating very far. You just don't know if the bad guy will be wearing a Hawaiian flowery shirt or a winter parka (we don't see many parkas here in MS). Winchester makes some good fmjfp for the 9mm and the .38 Special. Some rounds may be more accurate than some others. Although, at self defense distances, I don't think it is that critical, unless the round just doesn't hit where the sights are. It is a decision that you're going to have to make. What ever you use, train with that round. For now, don't worry about the quick draw touted by some "experts". You can't out draw some one that already has a gun pointed at you (unless that person is a complete idiot). Learn to shoot (not draw) quickly and accurately. Muscle memory becomes very important. Okay, enough about ammo for now. We'll have to talk about calibers later.

I see the fake news is still pounding on Trump, but that isn't going to stop. I'll close with this comment "If rioters come to your area, please remember, don't be a litterbug. Pick up your brass". That's from a person I'll identify as JT.

Take care and be safe.
